Wholly Stromboli
An East Coast–style Italian eatery making its strombolis by hand in the 1889 St. John building on Denver Avenue, with a bar, a veranda and a speakeasy event room. First come, first served; closed Mondays.
Wholly Stromboli fills the St. John building at 410 Denver Avenue, a mercantile Edgar St. John put up in 1889 and rebuilt as a single storey after a fire; the dining room keeps its seventeen-foot stamped-tin ceilings, and artifacts found during the renovation are displayed in the bar area (the restaurant’s Our Story page, https://www.whollystromboli.com/our-story/). The kitchen, led by co-owner and executive chef Melissa Rickman, makes its dough, marinara, meatballs and strombolis by hand with locally sourced ingredients; besides the dining room and bar there is a veranda and a Speakeasy room for private events, and the restaurant caters. The restaurant takes no reservations or call-ahead seating and seats a party only once everyone has arrived; there is an online waitlist on the site.
