House of Smoke
The Barsness family’s Fort Lupton smokehouse, smoking meats since 1973: smoked turkeys, wild-game sausages and jerky to take home or ship, and a weekday deli with sandwiches, meat trays and burger specials.
House of Smoke began in 1973, when Gordon Barsness and his family, who had come to Fort Lupton from Iowa, bought their first smoker and started smoking turkeys and chickens; son Jim took over in 1981, and the business still works from its original building, now tripled in size (https://houseofsmokeinc.com/about). It lists more than three hundred items, from bison, elk, venison, wild boar and smoked turkeys to thirty kinds of wild-game sausage and jerky, and ships coast to coast. The deli (https://houseofsmokeinc.com/deli/) sells sandwiches, meat trays and burger specials, a wild boar and Hatch chile burger on Wednesdays and a bison or elk burger on Fridays. It is open weekdays only, 8 am to 3 pm.
